Sydney has just endured some of the most cruelly storms this state has welcomed in many years.
As I sat in my in addition floor office facing Sydney Harbor last night trying to work, the unyielding wind and rain prompted anybody to check the statistics. They revealed that as much as Manly we had endured almost 1 day of winds continuously above 60kmh with gusts continuously above 80kmh and gusting as high as 102kmh. It's no wonder the windows seemed they were about to blow out of their pictures.
At home just a few kilometers away, i was stunned at the havoc. Our localised beach was a surging mess concerning 6M plus swell and the ongoing wind had blown surreal timeless sand drifts across huge swathes concerning land and roads. I spend a short walk to check it out yesterday evening at the storm's peak and retreated quickly after being sandblasted & literally struggling to stand upright vacuum cleaner.
Although we survived with may be worth damage than many others up the in actual fact, it was no surprise that trees ended up down and power lines disturbed. We lost power some time early Tuesday morning and it took unless nearly 6pm until it was moved back on. In Manly the place my office is, the power has been out until just after lunchtime. Child, the fact the Ausgrid crews ended up even able to achieve this under mainly because conditions is astounding – less difficult off the brave crews and wonderful disaster relief efforts of the network community companies.

Since the office was a student in lockdown, I stuck around at home & battened down the hatches during the day, get yourself ready for what could be 24 hours or more without any electricity.
In an example of what can be done exclusively and at low cost in such a situation, I personally had the basics up and running in a few hours. I actually keep two batteries on regular charge with an old 12V solar energy panel for camping or emergencies therefore. I collected up my a variety 12V lights, wired up the right 12V socket set so we could certainly plug lots of devices in but also grabbed my small inverter to find devices that needed 240V suggest our wireless modem. Within an an hour I had lights, phone charging, lumière, radio and back up battery heat packs for the phones if we needed to leave and about.
I also set up a second product under the house with a dedicated inverter to run the igniter for the gas pedal hot water system and we transferred today's perishables to the 12V fridge within camper van which has it's actually 150W solar system and battery product. Within a short time, we had health, cleaning, light and communications under control.
Home like this are very rare but its a good reminder of how with a little ingenuity & a few hundred dollars worth concerning bits and pieces the basics can be secured an excellent an emergency.
