Melwood to Install 930kW Solar PV System from Headquarters in Upper Marlboro

Maryland's leading nonprofit organization serving this type of differing abilities, Melwood, is reaching out its sustainability efforts through the installing of a 930-kilowatt (kW) solar photo voltaic (PV) system at its seven-acre grounds that serves as the organization's secret headquarters in Upper Marlboro.

Standard Familia, Inc., a leading solar energy company focusing on the development and financing of raza electric systems nationwide, developed this particular project and is installing the system. ClicktoTweet

Totaling nearly one megawatt, this system features a 1, 335 panel solar power array, six carport arrays but an electrical vehicle (EV) charging stop and is expected to save the non-profit more than $1 million over the next 18 years.

"As a result of our solar renforcement project Melwood will dramatically remove our energy consumption, carbon impact and re-direct dollars previously used on overhead costs into our service computer software applications, " said Cari DeSantis, Belonging to the and CEO of Melwood. "This is a great example of Melwood's strategic réflexion to modernize our infrastructure, strengthen service programming and expand involving capabilities. "

At 517kW, this particular carport will be one of the largest with regard to Maryland and will feature an EV charging you station serving up to four box spaces. The complete system, including the solar power and carport, will produce good enough energy to offset nearly all of this particular electricity usage at the Melwood grounds. Through Maryland's Aggregate Net Metering regulations, the energy generated by the function, across all seven of Melwood's electric meters, will be credited to our nonprofit's multiple electricity accounts.

"Melwood does such important work for the city here in Maryland, this was a special development for our team at Standard Familia, " said Tony Clifford, PRESIDENT, Standard Solar. "The system is in order to save the organization as much as $50, 1000 a year which can be used to fund very much more programs for individuals with differing functionality, furthering their mission and idée. "

The system is being funded times WGL Energy through a Power Pick up Agreement, with additional funding within the solar carport provided through the Building Solar PV Canopy with Electric Sports car Charger Grant Program grant within the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), needing no upfront investment from Melwood.

"MEA is pleased that the money Melwood saves in energy costs within the solar canopy will strengthen Melwood's ability to serve and support people with disabilities, " said Devon Dodson, Acting Director, MEA. "We we do hope that this solar array inspires any wider range of individuals to seek power careers and add to Maryland's continuously growing solar industry. "

The arrays, which combined are expected to produce one-time, 202, 000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, will offset 829 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually which is comparable to the amount of CO2 emissions sequestered yearly by a 679 acre U. After hour. forest.
